Color (Primary and Accent)
Some colors naturally pair well together. Think red and green, red and gold, blue and silver, silver and gold, and blue and yellow.
Then there are colors that clash or create stark contrast; blue and orange, or yellow and purple. These complementary colors usually look too harsh to make them suitable for a Christmas ornament set.
Knowing this, you could (for example) get two sets with red and green ornaments and use them to make a larger set for decorating your tree.
There are also accent colors to consider. First let’s talk about size. Conventionally, the ornaments in a Christmas set are the same size. You don’t need to follow this design maxim, and in fact, staggering the sizes of ornaments in a set is a great way to captivate attention.
While there’s nothing wrong with aligning all your choices in terms of shape (say, all round ornaments) you can also shake things up here as well.
For instance, you can put together a set of baubles and finials that will look lovely together, but so do finials and onion-shaped ornaments. The round shapes of glass baubles and jingle-bell styled ornaments also look great together, as do finials and figurine-shaped ornaments.
You can get creative here - just make sure the sizes and shapes you use look nice together, since they will be going on the same tree!
Other Decorative Features
After aligning the ornaments you choose for your custom Christmas ornament set with respect to colors, sizes, and shapes, you can look at the last aspect to consider here: the other decorative features of your ornaments.
For instance, some ornaments are made with jewels and facets. Consider the colors highlighted here and use these to align with those of the other ornaments in the set you’re building.

Naturally, the ornaments in the set should look good together, but think about the Christmas picks, Christmas sprays, Christmas ribbons, resin pieces, and Christmas accents in your display. What elements of design are there in those that you can reflect in the ornaments you can pick out?
