We'll cover everything from selecting the right ribbons and sprays to adding the perfect finishing touches with ornaments and starburst lights. Let's dive in!

Step 1:Gathering your Supplies

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary materials on hand. For this project, you'll need the following items:

  • A green artificial Christmas tree (pre-lit or unlit based on your preference)
  • Ribbons: Red, blue, and white ribbons in various patterns and textures
  • Sprays: Red, blue, and white decorative sprays including star shapes and ones that resemble fireworks!
  • Ornaments: A mix of red, blue, and white ornaments, including star-shaped ornaments.
  • Flowers: Blue, red, and white poinsettias.
  • Lights: Starburst orbs or umbrella lights and cluster lights.
  • Tree Topper: A combination of red, blue, and white sprays to create a spectacular topper.

We suggest shopping our 4th of July Collection for the look you want!

Step 2: Assemble the Tree

First, set up your Christmas tree according to the manufacturer's instructions. Fluff the branches to give your tree a full and lush appearance. If your tree is pre-lit, plug it in to ensure all the lights are working properly. If you’re using a PVC garland or even creating a stunning wreath to match, you can set these to the side and make sure you purchase an extra set of decor quantities, depending on how full you would like the pieces to be. We recommend for your 30” wreath:

  • 5 flowers
  • 4 ornaments
  • 4 filler sprays
  • 1 roll of 4” ribbon

For your garland, have on hand:

  • 1-10’ spool of ribbon-up to 3 styles
  • 5-7 Florals
  • 12 Ornaments (2 or 3 different sizes)
  • 12 Sprays (7 of one and 5 of a different style)

Step 3: Create the Spray Topper

The tree topper is a focal point, and for this theme, we'll use a combination of decorative sprays to create a fireworks-like effect. Choose a variety of red, blue, and white sprays. Look for different textures and shapes to add interest. Begin by inserting the sprays at the top center of the tree, fanning them out in different directions. This will create a burst of color and sparkle. Using floral wire or zip ties, you can secure the sprays in place, ensuring they stay put throughout the holiday season.

Step 4: Add the Ribbon

Ribbons add a touch of elegance and movement to your tree. We'll intertwine red, blue, and white ribbons throughout the tree. Select ribbons in various widths and patterns. Stripes, polka dots, and solids all work well for this theme. Next, cut your main and accent ribbons into manageable lengths as you weave the ribbon throughout the tree. Here’s one of our favorite tutorials on how to accomplish the look you’re going for!

Start at the top of the tree and weave the ribbons through the branches. Alternate colors and patterns for a balanced look.

Step 5: Add Starburst Orbs For a Stunning Pop

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE our mini starburst orbs, also known as umbrella lights. These lights add a magical and dynamic element to your tree, and provide a “fireworks” illusion when placed like a large ornament throughout the tree. You can turn on varying lighting dynamics and as the starburst orbs are placed throughout the tree, they will absolutely glow and sparkle.

These Orb Lights are also delightful on patios or in trees to help you create a dynamic looking backyard!

Step 6: Add Sprays and Floral Clusters

Next, we'll add more sprays and floral clusters throughout the tree to enhance the theme and add depth. We love how white sprays can coordinate along with blue and red poinsettias. If you’ve followed along for a while, you will have heard us refer to “floral clusters!” Simply group two sprays and two flowers together to form your clusters. You can secure them together with floral wire or simply take one stem from our quality florals and wrap it firmly around the rest of the grouping. Insert the clusters evenly throughout the tree, focusing on any gaps or sparse areas.

Step 7: Add Ornaments

Now it's time to add ornaments to your tree. We'll use a mix of red, blue, and white ornaments, including star-shaped ones. Choosing a variety of sizes and shapes, place the large shatterproof ornaments into the body of the tree and then use star shaped ornaments and smaller shatterproof to fill in any holes you may see on your tree!
