It's hard to believe how quickly time flies, and here we are, already halfway through the year. As we embrace the changing seasons, we figure that it's never too early to start planning and envisioning the festive wonderland you'll create, especially with Christmas tree picks and sprays.
One technique for a brighter and jollier Christmas that we can’t recommend enough is the use of floral sprays. With just enough creativity, these enchanting accents can help you add that sense of flair and fashion to create that visually stunning holiday atmosphere.
Understanding Christmas Sprays
Now, in the past, we’ve talked about just how you can unlock the magic of Christmas sprays. This time, we’ll dive a little bit further and teach you how you can use them to create the most memorable Christmas cheer within your home.
Now, if you’re still fairly new to the magic of Christmas tree picks and floral sprays, here’s a quick refresher.
Christmas tree picks or sprays are decorative stems that include a wide range of elements, such as foliage, berries, pinecones, and more. From elegant birch cone sprays to shimmering iced twig sprays and charming crabapple sprays, the sprays we offer are filled with various textures, colors, and heights that can greatly complement your ornaments while still providing a cohesive look.
In fact, the one thing we absolutely love about floral sprays is how versatile they can be. These delightful accents are so adaptable that you can incorporate them not just in your Christmas tree, garlands, and wreaths, but in other areas of your home as well. They are perfect to coordinate your mantle, nooks, and bookshelves with your other more staple Christmas decor pieces. If you do get a few neutral Christmas tree picks, you can utilize them in your fall Christmas tree designs.
Selecting the Right Sprays
If you’ve shopped with us before, you’re probably feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment because of the sheer variety of different Christmas and floral sprays available. Don’t worry! That’s why we’re here. After reviewing our creative direction, you should feel confident to look at your existing Christmas decor or new Christmas tree ideas and identify the best looks for your vision. The first step we recommend in overcoming that initial feeling of overwhelm is to imagine and then plan out your space.
1. Consider your Christmas Decor Theme
Take a moment to think about the color scheme of your existing Christmas decor, or of the theme that you want to fashion this Christmas season.
Are you aiming for a rustic and cozy feel, or do you prefer a more whimsical or elegant and glamorous aura? Consider the style and atmosphere you want to create and choose sprays that reflect that vision.
If you're going for a classic Christmas look, sprays with red berries or green foliage will beautifully complement traditional ornaments. For a modern and sophisticated vibe, consider sprays with silver accents or icy blue hues from the White Christmas Collection. By aligning the colors of your sprays with your decor, you can create a cohesive and visually pleasing display.
2. Choose a Color Palette
Are you thinking of decorating your home with traditional reds and greens? Maybe you’re a glitz and glitter girl that loves silver and gold accents. Or maybe this year you want to mix it up and go with a more whimsical, playful, and cutesy theme?
If that last theme we mentioned is on your mood board, then we recommend looking out for sprays in pastel hues, such as pink, mint green, and baby blue. Our Santa’s Sweet Shoppe collection is so imaginative with colorful flowers, candy-inspired ornaments, and whimsical elements are perfect for creating a festive and vibrant display.
3. Mixing and Matching
Remember, when you’re assembling your Christmas tree theme, you can mix and match your looks to create a one-of-a-kind creation. Ways to Add Christmas Tree Picks & Sprays to Your Tree
Use them in your tree topper
Who doesn't love a good Christmas tree topper that steals the show? Sprays are our secret weapon for creating an enchanting topper that reaches new heights - literally! Here’s an example you can take some inspiration from.
If you want to create a similar look for your tree, consider the following:
- Decide on 5 different styles of sprays, and pick out between 5-7 pieces per style.
- Choose sprays with a certain height to them. Shorter sprays work well for garlands and wreaths, but for a tree topper, you want sprays that extend its height.
- Bring variety into those sprays by choosing different textures and colors. Look for sprays with a mix of foliage, berries, and those wispy elements that add a touch of whimsy.
- Artfully insert the sprays one by one, checking and making sure that the stems run straight along the tree’s pole.
As a reference, most of the 7.5’-9’ trees in our retail store follow this method, carrying around 30-35 sprays. Depending on how full you want your topper to be, you can trim the number down to 4 pieces for each style, up to 12 pieces for a 12’ tree.

Use them as tree fillers
Christmas tree picks come to the rescue when we're looking to add depth and texture to a tree. Rather than relying solely on ornaments, sprays can not only fill in gaps, but also create a sense of abundance and richness.
One of our favorite techniques is creating clusters with sprays and florals.
To make a floral cluster, thoughtfully select a mix of three to five sprays and florals that complement each other in color and style.
Place the florals on top, angling each head so that they are all visible. The bottom floral can be pulled forward slightly, and the top ones can be angled out to the sides. Lay the florals on top of the sprays, allowing the sprays to cascade down a bit.
To hold the cluster together, wrap one stem around all the pieces, making sure it's secure and well-positioned.
When placing floral clusters on the tree, work in a zigzag pattern down the tree, alternating between the right and left sides. The number of clusters to aim for depends on the size of your tree. As a general rule of thumb, one cluster per foot of tree height works well. However, feel free to adjust based on the size and fullness of your tree.
Enhancing Key Areas with Sprays
By now you’ve seen just how fun and festive Christmas sprays can be. However, it doesn’t end there! You can also use them to bring more depth and texture to some of the key locations in your home, such as your mantlepiece, stairway, dining table, and entryways.
For you eager learners that need a little step-by-step, here are a couple of ways and examples that you can absorb and apply.
Sprays for A Marvelous Mantelpiece

- Pick and choose sprays with styles that blend well with your tablecloth and table setting.
- Using 5-7 pieces of each style, insert them strategically into the wreath, creating a stunning arrangement that adds height, color, and texture to your dining table.
- Add some ornaments, ribbons, or candles for extra flair.
Christmas Sprays with Swag
Creating a Christmas swag is a wonderful way to add that festive cheer to your front door or any focal point in your home. Traditionally, swags were known for their looping design adorned with fruit, flowers, and foliage.
Crafting your own swag is easier than you may think. In our modern twist, we take a Christmas teardrop base, combine it with mixed pine and other elements.
