Outdoor Christmas Decorations: a Guide to Christmas Inflatables

Nov 26th 2025

A few colorful and carefully chosen outdoor Christmas decorations can change the whole character of your yard. Christmas inflatables, specifically, can transform your outdoor spaces, adding light, color, and the spirit of Christmas.

These unique outdoor Christmas decorations are also fairly easy to set up, loom larger than life, and later, pack down into a small fraction of the space they occupy once inflated, making them an excellent option for many homeowners.

Here’s how you can incorporate inflatables in your outdoor Christmas decorating, with some high-level notes.

Setting Up for Success

The area you select for your Christmas inflatable, as well as how you set it up, is important to ensure that you can avoid areas that will be subjected to excess wind, and more. Here are some suggestions.

  • Look for areas that will provide a windbreak. Wind will make it tough to keep your Christmas inflatables steady, but while you can’t eliminate it,you can select a location that offers a break from the wind. Along the side of a house, under a fence, or near a hedgerow will help minimize wind fetch to shelter your inflatable.
  • Flat is your friend. All else being equal, the best place you can select to set up your Christmas inflatable is a flat section of the yard. Level ground will make it easier to set up and stake down the inflatable.
  • Secure the Christmas inflatable to the ground. Most Christmas inflatables are designed to be staked to the ground. This not only ensures they won’t lean or tilt over once inflated, but helps prevent wind from interfering with the presentation.
  • Protecting your grass. One thing homeowners commonly notice is that Christmas inflatables can create a patch of dead grass if they are left in place for too long. There are two solutions to this. One is to only leave up the inflatable for a week or two prior to Christmas; the other is to select a finished surface under which there is no grass. If you take the latter route, you will need an alternative method to secure the inflatable, since conventional yard stakes will not likely be an option.

Where to Place Christmas Inflatables

Assuming you can account for all of the suggestions offered in the previous section, where you place your Christmas inflatable will also have an impact on the effect it produces. While there are no hard or fast rules for where you can place one, the following offer some good ideas for places to start.

  • By the front door. By the front door is a great place to position outdoor Christmas decorations like inflatables as it makes an immediate first impression that will no doubt only be further reinforced by all the indoor Christmas decorations in your home!
  • By the end of the driveway: If you have a long driveway, or one that makes a few turns such that your home is not particularly visible by the street, at the end of the driveway, where the inflatable will be more noticeable, is an excellent spot as well.
  • By the road. If you want a prominent spot for your Christmas inflatable, by the road or out by the curb are both excellent options.
  • In the middle of a large lawn. If your home has a particularly large lawn, there are few better places for a Christmas inflatable than right in the middle, especially if the lawn is gently sloping. That will place the inflatable front and center.
  • By the patio in the backyard. Inflatables don’t have to go in the front yard; you can also place them in the backyard, and if you entertain in the back, even in the winter, by the patio is a great place.

In the Offseason

Once you take down these outdoor Christmas decorations, you will want to make sure that you store them properly so that you can easily set them up next year. Here are some suggestions to ensure your inflatables are properly stored and well-protected so that they’re good as new come next season.

  • Ensure the Christmas inflatable is clean and dry before storing. Make sure your inflatable is fully dry before you fold it up and store it. Trapped moisture will not evaporate once it’s been stored and can damage it.
  • Place it somewhere cool and dry for storage. You can store your inflatable anywhere you have space as long as it is cool and dry. Also, try to prevent exposing your inflatable to direct sunlight for too long.

Adding More Light with C9 Christmas Lights

Christmas inflatables like those that we sell here are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to outdoor decorating. In addition to the Christmas resin and light-up signs we also have, one creative way you can draw more attention to your outdoor Christmas decorations is with C9 lights.

The C9 Christmas lights we sell here are long-lasting, energy-efficient LED lights that will last for many seasons. What’s even better is that though they possess the vintage aesthetic of a large “bulb,” unlike traditional C9 lights which are made with glass, ours are shatterproof.

Adding some C9 Christmas lights to any trees in your yard or to your house is a great way to add light and focus to your outdoor decorations and will serve as an accent mark to your inflatables. In addition to roof and ridge lighting, you can also use C9 lights to light walkways, fences, railings, windows and doorways, and architectural columns, pillars and posts.

While you’re here, make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to catch the rest of our outdoor Christmas decorations; you never know what might catch your attention, and we have something that will make any home shine, you just have to discover it!
